Milo – A Last Mile Service

Make Goods Traffic Efficent

Description

Milo provides a B2B service for efficient small goods transport from the factory to the customer's doorstep. The system is characterized by maximum flexibility: goods are attached to public transport in the first leg and transported to a mobile hub in the city. The last mile is covered by autonomous vehicles. An innovation is the multi-purpose BOXes, replacing conventional packaging and thus eliminating packaging waste.

Relevance

The "last mile" poses one of the biggest challenges in logistics. High costs, inefficiencies, and environmental impacts require innovative solutions. Implementing eco-friendlier means of transport and optimized route planning are crucial to reducing costs, improving delivery accuracy, and minimizing environmental impacts.

More traffic
among other things, due to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
City Growth
The rising global population leads to the phenomenon of city growth.
High
Emissions
Delivery vehicles and many empty trips cause high emissions.
Key Issue

Every day, 500,000 rigs are on the road in Germany,
a third of which are running empty. [1]

Objective of this Project

Milo embodies our team's commitment to transforming B2B small goods transportation with a meticulously researched concept that harmonizes innovation and sustainability. Our goal is to refine this model to such a degree that, by the project's end, we're ready to introduce our comprehensive logistics solution, marked by pioneering Multi-purpose BOXes and integrated transport systems, to leading companies in Germany. Milo isn't just a service; it's our vision for a more efficient, environmentally responsible future in logistics.

Flexibility through Direct Delivery Routes

Milo allows for direct delivery routes without static storage spaces. Mobile hubs change locations as needed. Multi-purpose boxes are constantly in circulation, never staying in one place for more than an hour. The return path is directly integrated into the delivery processes, saving storage space and ensuring a minimum load of 70%.

Integration into Existing Public Transport Infrastructure

Milo guarantees a 100% delivery rate. Deliveries are made independently of store opening hours through secure locking systems next to the store door. The new system utilizes public transport for deliveries to urban areas. HUBmobiles and BOXmobiles are simply attached, not affecting drivers or passengers.

Use of Autonomous Vehicles on the Last Mile

Connected vehicles guarantee optimal routes and high vehicle utilization. Autonomous driving reduces disruptions in the supply chain and ensures timely deliveries. The use of electrically powered autonomous vehicles reduces particulate matter pollution and noise levels. Transport is done at night to minimize disturbance to the urban population. Furthermore the Dynamic planning of stops and precise prediction of package quantities per depot increase the efficiency of deliveries.

Integration Instead of New Installations

April 6, 2022

Nearly all expert interviews highlighted that in Germany, regulatory requirements make changes to public infrastructure and thereby the innovation process quite challenging. Moreover, projects in public spaces inherently involve more parties, each imposing their own requirements on the project initiator.
